Katherin Gutierrez

Katherin Gutierrez is a Colombian artist and art educator living in Weimar. From her background growing up in a small community in Colombia, Katherin is passionate about finding the valuable things that every community has to offer.

Her main research topic is about how people create a sense of home and how political it is to feel at home. Both in her artistic and academic work she deals with the topics of migration, motherhood, feminism, urban design, local economies, common resources, neighborliness, and the future of home-making. She has published work about meditation in the commons, and in her artistic practice, she works with photography, video, and graphic techniques.

As an educator, she uses art-making, art history, storytelling, and playfulness to mediate political subjects. In her workshops, the main objective is that the participants can know more about themselves and be more aware of their living spaces.

Katherin offers workshops in English, Spanish, and German.
