Dr. Shymaa Hammad

Dr. Shymaa Hammad is the face of the voluntary work in 2015/​2016 of the »Paritätische Buntstiftung« Thuringia and the recipient of the special award of the President of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2017 for the special academic achievements and the extraordinary intercultural/​voluntarily commitment.

She is from Egypt and works as a linguist, pedagogy and a teacher for German as a second language and English. She is also working as a teacher for special education and support pupils with learning disabilities.

After completing her master’s degree in methodology and didactics of the German language« at the University of Cairo, she came to Germany as a doctoral candidate in English didactics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. Parallel to her studies, she volunteered as a translator, interpreter and coordinator in the regular tea rounds in a refugee home.
Dr. Hammad, who speaks German, English and Arabic, helps among other things, improve contact between refugees and volunteers. She accompanies refugees when they go to authorities, visit the doctor and register in Nursery schools. She also translates invitations and offers for refugees. For several years she was the voluntary cultural ambassador of the Jena Community Foundation.

Dr. Hammad is also taking part in Seminars in methods for development education work and global learning in EWNT »Eine Welt Netzwerk Thüringen e.V.« and offering workshops in this field as well. In addition, she has been taking part in »Train the Trainer*in: Nationwide training for nature lovers’ strength advice« since 2020. The course includes, among other things, systemic techniques and instruments, didactic-methodological basics of seminar work, knowledge of work that promotes democracy and anti-racism, moderation, presentation and visualization, design and control of teaching /​ learning processes, organization of education and learning, or communication and rhetoric.

Dr. Hammad started her further education in political education through the »Train the Trainer Program« in the EJBW in 2019. Since then she has offered workshops on immigration law and discrimination as well as prejudice (especially as part of the state program »School without Racism – School with Courage«).

Dr. Hammad offers her workshops in the following languages: Arabic, English and German.
